Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Man and a Van Kentish Town in respect of our financial year and sets out the steps we are taking to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our business operations and supply chains.
We recognise that modern slavery is a severe violation of fundamental human rights. It includes slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour, debt bondage, and human trafficking. While we operate as a small, locally focused business, we understand that every organisation, regardless of size, has a responsibility to act with integrity and vigilance.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Man and a Van Kentish Town provides local and regional transport, removals, and associated services. Our activities rely on vehicles, equipment, fuel, and various subcontracted services. Our supply chains therefore include vehicle leasing and maintenance providers, fuel suppliers, equipment and packaging suppliers, and occasional subcontracted labour.
We are committed to working only with suppliers and partners who share our values, uphold lawful employment practices, and demonstrate respect for human rights. We expect transparency, cooperation, and continuous improvement from all those we do business with.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking in any part of our business or supply chains. Any form of forced, bonded, or compulsory labour is completely unacceptable, as is any exploitation, deception, or abuse of vulnerability for the purpose of obtaining labour or services.
All employees, contractors, and suppliers are expected to comply with this policy. Breaches may result in disciplinary action, contract termination, or reporting to appropriate authorities, as relevant. We will not knowingly work with any party involved in modern slavery or human trafficking.
Due Diligence and Supplier Audits
To reduce the risk of modern slavery within our operations and supply chains, we apply proportionate due diligence to our suppliers and partners. This includes assessing the nature of the goods or services they provide, their location, and the level of risk associated with their industry.
We reserve the right to conduct supplier audits where we identify higher-risk activities or where concerns are raised. These audits may involve reviewing employment practices, workforce conditions, and evidence of compliance with labour standards. Where possible, we seek contractual commitments from key suppliers confirming that they prohibit modern slavery and human trafficking and that they, in turn, expect the same from their own suppliers.
If any supplier fails to meet our expectations or refuses to cooperate with reasonable audit requests, we will review and may end the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Protection
We encourage all employees, contractors, and other stakeholders to raise any concerns they may have about potential modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected to our business. Concerns may be raised verbally or in writing to a line manager or a senior member of the business.
Reports can include suspected exploitation of workers, unsafe or degrading working conditions, withholding of identity documents, or any practice that may indicate forced or trafficked labour. All reports will be taken seriously, treated sensitively, and investigated where appropriate.
No individual who raises a concern in good faith will suffer any form of retaliation or detrimental treatment as a result of reporting their suspicions. We are committed to creating an open culture, where speaking up is encouraged and supported.
Training and Awareness
We aim to increase awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and supervision of subcontracted services. This includes guidance on recognising warning signs, understanding our zero-tolerance policy, and knowing how to report concerns.
As our business develops, we will continue to review opportunities for further training and guidance to enhance our capacity to identify and address modern slavery risks effectively.
Monitoring, Annual Review, and Continuous Improvement
Man and a Van Kentish Town is committed to ongoing improvement in our approach to preventing modern slavery. We regularly monitor our operations and supply chains for emerging risks and adapt our measures as needed.
This Statement and our associated policies and procedures will be reviewed at least annually by the management team. The review will consider any incidents reported, outcomes of supplier audits, changes in our supply chains, and relevant legislative or best-practice developments. Where necessary, we will update our processes, strengthen contractual requirements, or introduce additional safeguards to improve our controls.
By maintaining a strong stance against modern slavery, we seek to play our part in promoting fair, safe, and ethical working conditions for everyone connected with Man and a Van Kentish Town.
